PrimaLoft insulation has been around for nearly three decades, and has solidified itself in the outdoor industry as a leader in synthetic insulation. Originally developed for the military as a down alternative, PrimaLoft has many characteristics that make it great for use in ski and snowboard outerwear, as well as footwear. The material itself is made up of tiny, ultra-fine fibers that are tightly woven together, creating a huge amount of surface area and allowing them to capture and retain heat efficiently, as well as dry very quickly. These fibers are also water resistant, allowing PrimaLoft garments to maintain their warmth, even when wet. This insulation is also extremely compressible, which helps minimize bulk and reduce weight, or in the case of jackets and pants, allows them to be stuffed into packs or bags much more easily than those filled with other synthetic insulations.
