Snowcats were on the prowl last week at A-Basin as they formally became the second Colorado ski resort to open for the 2011/2012 season. Lifts became open to the public at 9 a.m. last Thursday, October 13th, but not before a tribute to the late founders of Arapahoe Basin, Marnie Jump and Max Dercum (who helped start the popular Colorado ski destination nearly 70 years ago), took place. Thursday’s opening day also marked one of the earliest in the resorts seven decades of operation.
The next day, neighboring resort Loveland Ski Area opened their lifts with an 18-inch base. Both A-Basin and Loveland are open 7 days a week for the season, while Wolf Creek remains open on weekends only.
Whether you're a weekend warrior or a college student who can go up mid-week, grab your gear and get the car packed. Snow has arrived!
